Premiering on July 17, 2025, this American murder mystery miniseries comprises six episodes, each running for an hour. Set against the stunning yet harsh backdrop of Yosemite National Park, Untamed showcases remarkable performances from Eric Bana, Sam Neill, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Lily Santiago, telling a story that navigates the delicate balance between civilization and the wild.
In the expansive wilderness of Yosemite National Park, the death of a woman leads a federal agent into an uncharted realm where nature follows its own rules. What starts as a simple investigation soon transforms into a more intricate narrative, combining procedural elements with deeply emotional character explorations. This tale delves into themes of grief, guilt, and the quest for redemption, even when the path seems hopeless.
A Murder Mystery That Rocks Yosemite
The series begins with the shocking discovery of a corpse in one of America’s most renowned national parks, instantly creating a sense of tension and foreboding. It promises a dark, immersive mystery that transcends conventional crime dramas. The investigation reveals layers of hidden secrets within the park’s community, where visitors, rangers, and locals each carry their own hidden burdens.
Kyle Turner: The Journey of a Troubled Investigator
Eric Bana takes on the role of Kyle Turner, a special agent in the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB) at Yosemite, who continues to mourn the loss of his young son from six years prior. Bana delivers a profoundly restrained portrayal, embodying a character whose personal loss reflects the wilderness surrounding him—visually stunning yet marked by scars. Turner approaches crime scenes with a hardened exterior and tense demeanor, earning him the nickname “Gary Fucking Cooper” from his peers.
Paul Souter: The Mentor’s Insight
Sam Neill plays Paul Souter, the chief park ranger of Yosemite and a mentor to Turner. Neill infuses his character with gravitas, acting as both a guide and a moral compass for the investigation. His character embodies the institutional wisdom of the park, while grappling with the darker realities hidden beneath Yosemite’s natural splendor.
Nature’s Justice
Without revealing too much of the complex storyline, the series culminates in a tense confrontation where the personal and professional stakes of the investigation intertwine. It examines themes of justice, authority, and memory, ultimately questioning whether true justice can prevail in a realm where nature itself seems to defy human law.
A Netflix Hit
Untamed has garnered acclaim as a mystery thriller with a profound emotional foundation, with critics highlighting its strength in character-driven narratives. All six episodes are currently available on Netflix, making it ideal for binge-watching. The series boasts a 7.3 rating on IMDb, and its binge-friendly format has sparked social media conversation, with first-look images and cast announcements trending in entertainment circles and Netflix fan groups. The breathtaking Yosemite backdrop and Eric Bana’s compelling lead performance have positioned Untamed as a notable entry in Netflix’s crime drama lineup.
If you enjoy atmospheric crime dramas rich in psychological intrigue, Untamed is a must-watch series on Netflix. The blend of murder mystery, stunning wilderness, and outstanding performances creates an unforgettable viewing experience.
A haunting crime thriller that reveals that sometimes the most perilous predators are not those lurking in the wild, but the secrets hidden within humanity.
